Call for Submissions

NO FEE submission call + editor interview – Lily Poetry Review, DEADLINE: Year-round

Lily Poetry Review is a biannual literary journal available in print. They publish flash fiction, poetry, book reviews, and art. There first issue will be available at AWP and they are currently open for submissions for the forthcoming summer issue.

I was curious how and why this literary journal began, so I asked Editor-in Chief Eileen Cleary a few questions to find out. See my interview with Cleary and a link to submission guidelines below.


HOPKINSON: Tell me a little bit about Lily Poetry Review.

CLEARY: Lily Poetry Review is a print journal published biannually. We publish poetry, flash fiction and art as well as poetry book reviews.

HOPKINSON: How/why was Lily Poetry Review originally started?

CLEARY: Lily Poetry Review was started  to promote contemporary poets, poetry, flash fiction and literary citizenship.

HOPKINSON: Who is your target reader audience?

CLEARY: Our target readers are anyone who enjoys contemporary poetry, art and flash fiction. we think poets and writers will like our journal, but we hope any reader might find writing to fall in love with there.

HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?

CLEARY: We seek well written work that appeals to a wide audience. We tend to respond to concision,  strong imagery, a distinct voice and work that has a life beyond the page.

HOPKINSON: What do you wish you’d see submitted, but rarely comes in?

CLEARY: We would like to see more flash fiction.

HOPKINSON: What are some of your favorite lit mags/journals?

CLEARY: I enjoy reading The West Texas Literary Review, Poetry, Salamander, The Massachusetts Review and The Beloit Poetry Journal.
