Call for Submissions

THEMED/NO FEE Submission call + editor interview – Miniskirt Magazine, DEADLINE: Feb. 14, 2021

Miniskirt Magazine is a new online literary magazine with the tagline “your destination for love & romance.” They are currently open for submissions of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, flash prose, and visual art for their first issue until February 14. See my interview with Editor-in-Chief Kimberly Glanzman and a link to submission guidelines below.

HOPKINSON: Tell me a little bit about Miniskirt Magazine. How was it originally started?

GLANZMAN: I really wanted to publish a journal that’s filled with love and joy, that explores all the facets of how we experience love and attachment, friendship and hope. The world has been so dark lately, I’m looking to send something positive out into the universe.

HOPKINSON: Who is your target reader audience?

GLANZMAN: We hope that the issues that we curate will be an uplifting experience for our readers, so our target reader is anyone looking to feel a little less alone, and a little more connected! There are so many types of relationships, and ways that we, as social animals, form attachments, that we hope each issue will explore a tiny corner of the expansive concept of love & help readers see the love that already exists in their lives.

HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?

GLANZMAN: We’re open to anything, really, that addresses love, romance, friendship, attachment — we’re queer-friendly and smut-friendly, and we love happy endings.

HOPKINSON: What do you wish you’d see submitted, but rarely comes in?

GLANZMAN: Honestly, I wish we’d get more genre — we’ve received a lot of great literary work but I would love to see a short romcom, a paranormal romance story, an enemies-to-lovers thriller. And humor! I think a lot of love happens in the places where people can laugh together, and I can’t tell you how much I love reading stories and poems that incorporate comedy.

HOPKINSON: Who are some of your favorite lit mags/journals?

GLANZMAN: I think we’re all a little bit in love with perhappened, and they publish excellent work. My reading tastes are eclectic; I adore the speculative work that Blind Corner and From the Farther Trees have been publishing, and Daily Drunk can always lift my spirits. Some of my favorite poetry in the last few years has been in Passages North, Ninth Letter, and Salt Hill.

HOPKINSON: What is your favorite part of being on staff with Miniskirt Magazine?

GLANZMAN: I adore being able to read so many submissions that are about the different kinds of love that are out there; I’m especially delighted to have so many lovely queer stories coming our way!

HOPKINSON: Where can we send submissions?

GLANZMAN: Email us at miniskirtmagazine@gmail.com — please check our submission guidelines on our website first!

HOPKINSON: If someone has a question, how can they contact you?

GLANZMAN: Email miniskirtmagazine@gmail.com and put “question” in the subject line; we’ll get back you asap! You can also DM us on Twitter or Instagram.
