(Re) An Ideas Journal is a new literary journal featuring the work of artists, creators, and thinkers in various categories, published online quarterly. They are currently open for submissions of poetry for their upcoming Spring issue. For more information see my interview with founder Felice Neals and a link to submission guidelines below.
HOPKINSON: Tell me a little bit about (Re) An Ideas Journal.
NEALS: The whole concept of (Re) is that everything in art and life somehow relates to a re-root word. Such as, rebirth, restore, refresh, rethink…It is fun to brainstorm with my Editor, H.E. Fisher when we need a re word for a caption. And great see what re words the Contributors in all genres, come up with when we ask them to describe their featured work.
HOPKINSON: How/why was (Re) An Ideas Journal originally started?
NEALS: I had originally thought about starting a vintage online fashion journal, as I am a huge fan of vintage/thrift clothing. But then the concept of re-creating a look using re-cycled clothing got me thinking about how, as writers, we are always re-inventing our stories, poems, et al., by re-working words/ideas to make them our own.
HOPKINSON: Who is your target reader audience?
NEALS: Anyone who is interested in great prose, poetry, science, music and art.
HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?
NEALS: We are always looking for work from emerging and established writers and artists in any genre, that explores all forms and approaches to their subject matter.
HOPKINSON: What do you wish you’d see submitted, but rarely comes in?
NEALS: Hybrid pieces and science fiction/fantasy.
HOPKINSON: What are some of your favorite lit mags/journals?
NEALS: Gosh. So many. Orion, Paris Review, Oye Drum, American Poetry Review, Night Heron Barks…
HOPKINSON: What is your favorite part of being on staff with the (Re) An Ideas Journal?
NEALS: As the founder and in-house designer, I love creating the look for each issue and sharing the work of writers, artists, math, and science wonders and often, musicians, who I have admired or who we have discovered during this creative journey.
HOPKINSON: Where can we send submissions?
NEALS: Please send to: reideasjournal@gmail.com
HOPKINSON: If someone has a question, how can they contact you?
NEALS: info@resideasjournal.com
