Call for Submissions

Two poems published in THE NOMAD + NO FEE call & interview, DEADLINE: April 30, 2025

Tremendous thanks to THE NOMAD for publishing two of my poems ” First Sighting” and “Waiting Around” along with my commentary about the poems and an audio reading. They also sent me a gorgeous print edition for being a contributor!

The Nomad is a literary magazine for people enthralled with beauty and what can be conveyed through words.  For the first year’s issues, they asked authors for two pieces – one that had been published before and perhaps needed more attention, and one that may have been overlooked and never made it into a collection. “We found some true treasures hiding in drawers.”

They are currently open for poetry submissions with the theme of “breakthroughs,” including two pieces from each author–one published and one unpublished, that somehow relate to the theme. You can read more about what they are up to, what they are looking for, and specific call details in my interview with Rachel White, co-founder & editor of The Nomad below.

HOPKINSON: How/why was THE NOMAD originally started?
WHITE: The writer and musician Ken Waldman and I started THE NOMAD because we felt the world could use a place for writing that takes a long view of the tradition and perhaps doesn’t conform to the current fashions.

HOPKINSON: Who is your target reader audience?
WHITE: People who enjoy reading well-crafted words but may not be part of academia.

HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?
WHITE: Writing that delights the reader.

HOPKINSON: What do you wish you’d see submitted, but rarely comes in?
WHITE: Reviews of poetry collections!

HOPKINSON: What are some of your favorite lit mags/journals?
WHITE: The Hudson Review, Sugar House Review, New Verse Review, Expansive Poetry Online, The Chiron Review

HOPKINSON: What is your favorite part of being on staff with THE NOMAD?
WHITE: It’s a dream come true to assemble a book that so many people enjoy.

HOPKINSON: Where can we send submissions?
WHITE: nomadlitmag@gmail.com

HOPKINSON: If someone has a question, how can they contact you?
WHITE: nomadlitmag@gmail.com I miss emails on occasion – if you don’t receive a response, please resend!
