Call for Submissions

NO FEE Submission call + editor interview – Quasar Review, DEADLINE: Always open

The Quasar Review is a global literary magazine dedicated to publishing people’s voices and broadcasting them across the world. It exists as a publisher for both accomplished and amateur creators, and its very name, Quasar, stands as a symbol of the strength of everyone’s voice when used to make a difference. Quasars are among the most luminous objects in the cosmos and have been an integral part of the universe for most of its history. As such, The Quasar Review remains a stronghold for human creativity and a home for poets, artists, and everyone in between! They have a fast response time to submissions and respond within a month. See my interview with founder/editor Zacharia Bahcivan and a link to their submission guidelines below.

HOPKINSON: How/why was The Quasar Review originally started?

BAHCIVAN: I desired a project where writers from across the globe could contribute to; I wanted anyone to be able to easily open our newest edition and read stories from across the world with the click of a button.

HOPKINSON: Who is your target reader audience?

BAHCIVAN: There are multitudes of genres and interests that people find themselves attracted to, but one of my team’s initial goals was for The Quasar Review’s audience to reach all of them! I wanted The Quasar Review to be one of those “hubs” where both sculptors and coffee-enthusiasts could discover something enjoyable to read and connect with.

HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?

BAHCIVAN: At The Quasar Review, all styles of work are welcomed equally. For writing and art, my team and I want readers to become thoroughly engorged in its theme and message; so greatly so that the background fades away and the nature of the poem, story, or painting in its totality may be felt.

HOPKINSON: What do you wish you’d see submitted, but rarely comes in?

BAHCIVAN: You might have heard this one before, but I cannot emphasize it enough: submit unique poems. I love reading poems that initially appear ordinary, but leave me wishing for more at the end, almost as if the subject of your poem crawled out of the frame. Those are so rare that they catch me by surprise.

HOPKINSON: What are some of your favorite journals?

BAHCIVAN: Some of my favorite journals include Herri, an established journal based in South Africa whose stunning multi-medium website design is something I envy, and Wingless Dreamer, which constantly strives to grow its literary community and positively impact its writers and readers.

HOPKINSON: What is your favorite part of being on staff with The Quasar Review?

BAHCIVAN: For me, it’s the ability to experience the extraordinary stories of individuals from different countries that makes running The Quasar Review worthwhile! Recognizing the nuanced cultural and linguistic differences in our writers’ literature is always a pleasant experience, particularly when it allows me to bridge expansive distances in a way social media never can.

HOPKINSON: Where can we send submissions?

BAHCIVAN: There are three ways to submit to our journal. You can send submissions through our 1) Google Form (which can be found on the Submissions page of our website), 2) Duosuma listing, or by 3) simply emailing thequasarreview@gmail.com.

HOPKINSON: If someone has a question, how can they contact you?

BAHCIVAN: You can always contact us by emailing thequasarreview@gmail.com with your questions. We’ll be sure to respond to your query within a few days!
