Jet Fuel Review is a literary journal based in Romeoville, IL that publishes contemporary poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and artwork biannually.
I wondered how and why this press came to be, so I asked Managing Editor Sam Gennett a few questions to find out. See my interview with Gennett and a link to their submission guidelines below.
HOPKINSON: Tell me a little bit about Jet Fuel Review.
GENNETT: Our mission is to publish high-quality writing and artwork from all over the nation (and sometimes the globe). JFR also seeks to connect with the literary world through our blog where editors write about a variety of artistic medias (i.e. literature, art, film, music). HOPKINSON: How/why was Jet Fuel Review originally started?
GENNETT: JFR was founded by Lewis University alum, Mary Egan, in 2011. The original intent of JFR was to showcase and promote contemporary literature, and this objective is still being upheld by current Lewis students, alumni, and volunteers who share a passion for literature under the guidance of faculty advisors Drs. Simone Muench and Jackie White.
HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?
GENNETT: We seek contemporary poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and artwork that pushes boundaries, reveals originality and ultimately brings to light a little bit of the human experience.
HOPKINSON: What are some of your favorite lit mags/journals?
GENNETT: We draw inspiration from Poetry, Green Mountains Review, Superstition Review, RHINO, Kettle Blue Review--to name a few. We love reading big-named magazines such as Boston Review, but we also love supporting our fellow indie lit mags.
HOPKINSON: Where can folks send submissions?
