I’m so pleased and honored to have my poem “And Finished knowing – then –” published in the Spring 2017 issue of Pretty Owl Poetry with some wonderfully talented friends and fellow poets, including CA Conrad, José Angel Araguz, and Sam Wein. I’m particularly excited about the publication of this poem for a couple of reasons: 1) I believed in this poem so much I submitted it 41 times before it was accepted! #nevergiveup; 2) this poem is an homage to Emily Dickinson after her poem “I felt a Funeral, in my Brain” and is included in my forthcoming chapbook of response poems to be published by Lithic Press early this summer.
Pretty Owl Poetry “is a journal that publishes new, emerging, and established writers in poetry, fiction, and the visual arts.” The issues are published in PDF format and are free to read online. Last September I reviewed Pretty Owl Poetry’s Summer issue for The Review Review. Here’s a snippet from my review:
The poems continue with sonic pleasure and dense descriptions to pull the reader through, make them stop to chew a bit, review, go back, move forward some to the end of each poem with a yearning for more. There are poems by Gage Ledbetter—narratives that unravel like hemp on a spool and miniature prose poems—the earth and sky shining through between the lines and space bar taps. These poems/stories will make you ache for the time you wasted watching Orange is the New Black episodes last night and for those moments you blew off scrolling through political garbage in whatever newsfeed haunts you. “My god is an uncomfortable one,” and “I used to rely on fire much more, but / now I hide it in the walls, next to / my self that is always thawing, never thawed,” indeed.
