elsewhere is a new online literary magazine publishing flash fiction, prose poetry, and nonfiction on a bi-monthly basis.
I wondered how and why this anthology came to be, so I asked editor Zach Power a few questions to find out. See my interview with Power and a link to their submission guidelines below.
HOPKINSON: Tell me a little bit about elsewhere.
POWER: We’re an online magazine that publishes every two months. We publish prose poetry and flash fiction and non-fiction.
HOPKINSON: How/why was elsewhere originally started?
POWER: It was started by three BYU MFA grad students who were looking for a magazine to publish prose poetry. When we didn’t find one, we decided to create our own.
HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?
POWER: Our “About” section describes it best: elsewhere cares only about the line / no line. We want short prose works (flash fiction, prose poetry, nonfiction) that cross, blur, and/or mutilate genre. We publish six writers and one photo quarterly. Give us your homeless, your animals, your lunch money: we’re hungry.
HOPKINSON: What are some of your favorite lit mags/journals?
POWER: PANK, Glimmer Train, NANO Fiction, Night Block, DIAGRAM
HOPKINSON: Where can folks send submissions?
POWER: We are currently open for no fee submissions for our regular issues, but also have a prose chapbook prize contest running until April 30, 2017. The contest has a $12 entry fee with a $1,000 cash prize to the winner. https://elsewheremag.submittable.com/submit
HOPKINSON: If someone has a question, how can they contact you?
POWER: editors@elsewheremag.org
