How to Get Paid for Poetry, with Orna Ross and Trish Hopkinson — Poetry Podcast

I couldn’t be more delighted to be appearing on the Ask ALLi Advice Podcast for Self-Publishing Poetry! Orna Ross is a lovely host and human being, working hard to help poets and writers alike on their self-publishing journey. In this podcast we cover both traditional lit mag submissions as well as how to build a network and self-publishing tips.

You can watch the episodes live on Facebook the 4th Monday of the month at noon Mountain Time (2pm ET) to ask questions real-time or a few days after via any platform you use to listen to podcasts. January’s podcast is already live and includes a summary, how to watch the video, links to listen to the podcast, as well as a full transcript.

Upcoming episodes will air live on the ALLi Facebook page:

  • February 22, 2021: 12pm MT / 2pm ET
  • March 22, 2021: 12pm MT / 2pm ET

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this discussion, as I think every poet who considers submission wins points for courage and conviction- hence:

    Starving Poets

Poets don’t earn a living wage
they don’t have a union or pension
They may toil through the night
Just to get a line right
Yet never earn fame or attention.

Poetry isn’t a job or career
You shouldn’t get in it for money
    But it has its perks
    the joy when it works
when verses are touching or funny.

    So write if you will
for the fun and the thrill
Because you love verses or rhyme
But your day job must stay
    there is no other way…
most poets will not earn a dime.
