Arteidolia is an art and literary platform founded in 2013 that features essays, reviews, critical writing, visual art, experimental work, engagements, interviews & conversations. The platform includes their literary journal swifts & slows: a quarterly of crisscrossings which features poetic collaborations; and Arteidolia Press publishing literary collections of poetry, essays, and experimental writing. For more information, see my interview with Editor Randee Silv and a link to submission guidelines below.
HOPKINSON: Tell me a little bit about Arteidolia and swifts & slows.
SILV: Arteidolia is a platform for artists/musicians/writers to re-approach, re-consider, re-think visual/sound/word. We publish reviews, essays, critical writing & interviews and continue to look for work that leans more towards an experimental edge. In our literary journal swifts & slows: a quarterly of crisscrossings, we feature poetic collaborations in all forms. And recently, we’ve launched Arteidolia Press.
HOPKINSON: How/why was Arteidolia and swifts & slows originally started?
SILV: In 2013, after working for other online & print magazines, I wanted to see if I could generate a publication without that commercial spin, free of advertising, that would visually have a painterly texture and could spark conversation among artists & writers on terms that matter to them. Once in motion, Arteidolia found its direction. Years later, I noticed that there wasn’t a literary journal specifically for collaborative projects and thought, why not begin one myself?
HOPKINSON: Who is your target reader audience?
SILV: Anyone curious.
HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?
SILV: The unexpected. Submissions that are inventive and thought provoking. A shared vibe. A palette of inquisitive and challenging voices.
HOPKINSON: What do you wish you’d see submitted, but doesn’t often come in?
SILV: More work that pushes the gamut of possibilities.
HOPKINSON: What are some of your favorite lit mags/journals?
SILV: Otoliths, Word for/Word, Bone Bouquet, Posit, Datura and Indefinite Space, among others.
HOPKINSON: What is your favorite part of being the editor of Arteidolia and swifts & slows?
SILV: Watching the organic process unfold while working closely with each contributor from beginning to end.

Two questions: Is “Arteidolia” related to the practice of pareidolia?
I may wish to submit but it would be helpful for me first to do a brief phone consult. Possible?
Please contact the magazine directly.
