National Poetry Month Reading & Open Mic featuring Maggie Smith – April 7 @ 7pm ET

The International Women’s Writing Guild‘s spring programming for Poetry Palooza concludes with a National Poetry Month special event Thursday, April 7 at 7pm eastern! I’m excited to be hosting this event and to introduce the incomparable Maggie Smith, followed by a Q&A and open mic. This is a free event, but please consider donating to IWWG or becoming member to support women writers around the globe.

Maggie Smith is the author of five award-winning books: Lamp of the Body, The Well Speaks of Its Own Poison, and Good Bones, named by the Washington Post as one of the Five Best Poetry Books of 2017, Keep Moving, and Goldenrod. The title poem of Good Bones was called the “Official Poem of 2016” by Public Radio International and has been translated into nearly a dozen languages. Smith’s poems have appeared in the New York Times, Tin House, The Believer, The Paris Review, Kenyon Review, Best American Poetry, and on the CBS primetime drama Madam Secretary. A Pushcart Prize winner, Smith has received fellowships and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Academy of American Poets, the Ohio Arts Council, and the Sustainable Arts Foundation. https://maggiesmithpoet.com/

The Guild was founded in 1976. As a women’s writing guild, we are culturally diverse. From the beginning, we’ve represented women from many backgrounds. When the Guild was founded, we wanted to create a place where all women writers feel welcome, inspired, and empowered by skills, resources, and mentoring.

Now, after 45 years of enriching women writers’ lives, we are still growing and changing with the times. We have a strong membership, a quarterly publication, a yearly summer conference, and regional events,

We’ve been listening to women writers around the world. Many of us yearn for writing and publishing resources, friendship, self-expression, professional writing guidance, and development of craft. Many of us yearn for a community, but may not have the means or time to travel to a Guild event in person.

We refuse to let the voices of emboldened women writers go unheard. We have therefore expanded our online workshops and also offer free writes, Open Mics, writing circles and a Global Pen Pal program.

We’re ushering in a movement of mighty, soulful women writers. Together, we’re changing the way women writers’ stories get heard, crafted, and spread around the globe.
