Call for Submissions

2 poems published in Anti-Heroin Chic

I’m honored to have two poems published in the December issue of Anti-Heroin Chic alongside so many incredibly talented poets!

My poems “The Hospital Bed Floats” and “Anniversary” are poems of recovery. It’s important to me that these personal poems are out in the world.  Many of you know that in 2015 my son (21 at the time) was in a horrible accident in which he was hit on his bicycle by someone in a pickup truck in downtown Salt Lake City. He nearly lost his life. Recovery was difficult, but he made it through and I’m grateful every day that he is still the same amazing, creative person he was before the accident.

Anti-Heroin Chic publishes three issues a year, in April, August, and December. Submissions are typically open for the two months prior to the publication month and are fee-free. They publish poetry, CNF/essay, and art/photography. They are quick to respond and incredibly kind!

“Anti-Heroin Chic is a collective journal of poetry, photography, art work, essays, interviews and more. ‘Anti-Heroin Chic’ meaning that what is beautiful is what is broken, that our imperfections, our exiles, our exclusions, are what define our humanity most, not the polished surface or the Instagram culture which encourages us to dissociate from who and how we truly are. There is a seat for everyone here at the table. The idea of the commune very much animates this project. This journal strives for inclusion and a diversity of voices, not to disparage others but to lift them up. We also strive to publish those who are being neglected or under-served in the literary or art communities.”

  1. Yay! I’ve been in touch with the EIC at Anti Heroin Chic (I’m the EIC at Lit Shark Magazine), and I’m so excited to see this latest issue—and now it’s especially special, because you’re in it! Looking forward to giving it a read. Happy Holidays!
