Poets from 43 states and 12 countries will generate experimental poetry in recognition of National Poetry Month this year as part of the Found Poetry Review’s PoMoSco (short for Poetry Month Scouts) project. Trish Hopkinson is the only Utah poet participating and will earn digital merit badges for successfully completing 30 poetry challenges and creating 30 new poems during National Poetry Month. Hopkinson is using a variety of sources to create the poems, but has been focusing on the texts of lesser known women writers, such as Tillie Olsen, Joy Harjo, Zitkala-Sa, and many others.
The project’s 30 badges are organized into five categories based on the method of generation: remixing, erasure, out and about, conceptual and chance operation. Within each category, poets can earn up to six badges by writing poetry in response to prescribed prompts of varying difficulty.
