Call for Submissions

NO FEE Submission call + editor interview — Wild Voices anthology, DEADLINE: Closes when full

Wildflower Poetry Press is an independent publisher of poetry books, specializing in short poetry & art. They publish collections of single poets, as well as anthologies. They are currently looking for short poems for their second volume of wild voices: an anthology of short poetry & art by women. Previously published poems are okay with publication credit.

The cool part is, 10% of profits for every Wildflower Poetry Press publication are donated to a wildlife rescue.

I wondered how and why this anthology came to be, so I asked founder Caroline Skanne a few questions to find out. See my interview with Skanne and a link to their submission guidelines below.

HOPKINSON: Tell me a little bit about the wild voices anthology.

SKANNE: The call for submissions for this venture was prompted by the international women’s day in 2016. With a background in anthropology and gender studies, my drive as an editor of this particular project was to gather work across the artistic community of the short poem, to provide a sample of expressions across the spectrum. In response to the huge success & positive reaction to this book, it has been decided to make it a regular feature of wildflower poetry press. the next volume set to be published autumn 2017.

HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?

SKANNE: We are looking for short poems in many variations (ranging from haiku, senryu, tanka & other closely related short form styles, to that of the micropoem and the free verse poem) but also, of for the female voice in poetry and art, so often neglected or marginalized. ‘wild voices’ attempts to somehow help readjust the imbalance, nothing more, nothing less.

HOPKINSON: Is there a theme for the anthology?

SKANNE: This is a broad theme meant to explore wild voices & original interpretations are welcomed. There is no need to use ‘wild’ or ‘voices’ in the poems submitted.

HOPKINSON: Where can folks send submissions?

SKANNE: Please send 10-20 pieces of short poetry and/or art (min. 300 dpi please in jpeg) for consideration to with ‘SUBMISSION WILD VOICES’ followed by your name in the subject line. You will only hear back from us if your submission is successful.

Submissions will close when the book is full (please look for updates on the wildflower press Facebook page or simply subscribe to our MAILING LIST by sending an email to
