The Augment Review is the new online literary magazine publishing writing and artwork by youth ages 13-25 for their inaugural issue with the theme “Indulge.” They provide some prompts for each theme, including a Spotify playlist, visual inspiration, and a list of words for verbal inspiration. They also provide feedback on every submission!
They are currently seeking short stories, flash fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, experimental, art, photography; blog articles, interviews, and reviews. For more information, see my interview Editors in Chief Stella Lei and Sabrina Zhang and a link to submission guidelines below.
HOPKINSON: How/why was The Augment Review originally started?
EDITORS: The Augment Review was started to give a platform for youth creative expression. Throughout our lives, we found that youth voices are often ignored or overlooked, so we wanted to create a space in which youth perspectives specifically can be elevated and amplified.
HOPKINSON: Who is your target reader audience?
EDITORS: While our submissions are only open to creators aged 13-25, we hope that people of all ages and backgrounds will read and enjoy the work we feature.
HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?
EDITORS: We are open to art and writing of any genre or category, and we love to see experimental work. We tend to favor honest work that has strong emotions and voice.
HOPKINSON: What do you wish you’d see submitted, but rarely comes in?
EDITORS: We would love to see more prose and hybrid work! The latter can be an intersection of poetry and prose, art and writing, two dimensional and three dimensional. We’d love to see it all.
HOPKINSON: What are some of your favorite lit mags/journals?
EDITORS: Some of our favorite lit mags include but are not limited to the Jellyfish Review, DIAGRAM, and Waxwing.
HOPKINSON: What is your favorite part of being on staff with The Augment Review ?
EDITORS: My favorite part of being on this staff is seeing everyone’s different perspectives and ideas regarding each piece and what makes it effective. Managing this publication has exposed us to new mindsets toward art and writing, helping us broaden our horizons and find new favorite artists and writers.
HOPKINSON: Where can we send submissions?
EDITORS: Submission forms and guidelines can be found on our website, at this link: https://www.theaugmentreview.org/submit
