NO FEE Calls for Submissions – 11 Lit Mags with Deadlines in May, 2015

One of these is a paying markets. This list focuses on poetry submissions, but most lit mags accept prose and art as well. The listings are in order of closest deadlines.

Prairie Schooner

SUBMISSION FEE: NONE

NOTES: No simultaneous submissions.

“Prairie Schooner publishes short stories, poems, interviews, imaginative essays of general interest, and reviews of current books of poetry and fiction. Scholarly articles requiring footnote references should be submitted to journals of literary scholarship. Prairie Schooner’s intention is to publish the best writing available, both from beginning and established writers.”

NOTES: “There are many fantastic literary journals out there, looking specifically for submissions from women, feminists, gays/lesbians, Jewish, Christian, African-American, et al. In creating this online literary journal, we’re providing an outlet for AND by everyone: every age, race, gender, sexual orientation, and religious background. NOTES: “Dedicated to publishing fine fiction, non-fiction, plays, screenplays, poetry, literary cartoons, photography and art, The Southampton Review opens its pages to writers from across the globe whose work is compelling. Our pages are equally devoted to emerging and established writers and artists.”

Though there is a nominal fee for submitting, this is a great market for new and emerging writers. According to Duotrope, their acceptance rate is about 12%.

    • I’m not sure Bob, but it does look like they are not accepting anything right now. I checked Duotrope as well and it still shows the 5/31 date as the deadline. Thanks for the note!
