10 PAYING/NO FEE Literary Magazines – Deadlines: Dec. 15 – Jan. 15, 2018

The literary magazines/journals listed below all offer some form of payment, do not charge submission/reading fees, take online submissions, and have submission deadlines from December 15, 2017 – January 15, 2018.

This list focuses on poetry submissions, but most lit mags accept prose and art as well. The listings are in order of closest deadlines.


Eye to the Telescope

DEADLINE: December 15, 2017

SUBMISSION FEE: None

THEME: “This issue of the Eye to the Telescope explores all things Arthurian. From early epics to modern fantasy and science fiction, stories of the Round Table continue to fascinate.”

PAYMENT: “Writers published will be paid $20-$75 according to the category and length of their submission.”

The 3288 Review

DEADLINE: December 31, 2017

SUBMISSION FEE: None

NOTES: “Starting March 1, 2017, we are only accepting submissions from current or former residents of West Michigan, or frequent visitors to the West Michigan region.”

The Bare Life Review

DEADLINE: December 31, 2017

SUBMISSION FEE: None

NOTES: publishing work exclusively by immigrant and refugee authors:

  • Foreign-born writers living in the United States
  • Writers living abroad who currently hold refugee status

FORMAT: print

PAYMENT: “$1000 for accepted prose pieces, and $400 for accepted poems”

Existere

SUBMISSION FEE: None

FORMS: poetry, short plays, short stories, postcard/flash fiction, art and literature reviews, critical essays, interviews, sketches, photos, etc.

FORMAT: print

PAYMENT: “A small honourarium to writers and artists upon publication. The exact rates vary by length of submission, but will include a copy of Existere (minimum).”

Folio

DEADLINE: January 2, 2018

SUBMISSION FEE: None

THEME: crossroads and intersections

FORMS: art, fiction, non-fiction, poetry

FORMAT: print

PAYMENT: “One winner and two runners-up in each genre will receive notation within the Spring 2018 issue, with the first place pieces receiving a small token of our monetary appreciation ($50 USD).”

The Stinging Fly

DEADLINE: January 11, 2018

SUBMISSION FEE: None

NOTES: publishes work by Irish and international writers

PAYMENT: “With a limited budget, we are only in a position to offer contributors a discretionary token payment. They also receive a copy of the issue in which their work is featured and can order further copies at a discounted rate.”

PAYMENT: “The winning poet will receive $500 and publication in the Spring 2018 issue of Fourteen Hills.”
