Call for Submissions

NO FEE submission call + editor interview – Necro Magazine, DEADLINE: Mar. 15, 2020

Necro Magazine is a new online literary magazine, with an unusual start spun off from Necro Productions, publishing literature, visual art and video art.

I was curious how and why this art and literary magazine began, so I asked founder Ruben Baca a few questions to find out. See my interview with Baca and a link to submission guidelines below.

HOPKINSON: Tell me a little bit about Necro Magazine.

BACA: Necro Magazine is a part of Necro Productions, a company that creates media and material for artists such as photography, reviews, lyric videos, flyers, video editing and produces live events. These services are usually bought by musicians but I’m open and free to working with anyone.

Necro Magazine is very young! We launched on December 25th of 2019 and will publish and promote literature, visual art and video art.

Currently, Necro Magazine is comprised of a two-man team. My friend and fellow poet/producer Jack Campbell has agreed to help me review submissions and also spread the word about our new magazine.

HOPKINSON: How/why was Necro Magazine originally started?

BACA: Necro Magazine was started to give emerging artists, not just poets, an audience and outlet for their work to be experienced. Each issue will have one general theme. Each artist has their own voice and experiences, but here the audience will be emerged in a theme with hundreds of facets to the theme. I hope this will highlight and contrast the techniques and personality of each writer.

And by having themes that deal with ordinary life I hope anyone can check it out and in a few moments think “Hey, me too.” or “Wow, I never saw it that way.”

HOPKINSON: Who is your target reader audience?

BACA: I’m targeting readers of all ages. But I’m also targeting non-readers by accepting photography, visual art and video. It’s all online currently, once I have printed copies the new media aspect with not be available. But the online issues will always be there and more inclusive.

HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?

BACA: Anything that fits into the theme! Poetry, excerpts of novels, short stories, micro poetry, photography, new media and visual art! This first issue will revolve around Death. Fitting for Necro, I think.

HOPKINSON: What do you wish you’d see submitted, but rarely comes in?

BACA: Something that really pushes the boundaries of the theme. Visual art hasn’t had nearly as many submissions yet as I had hoped.

HOPKINSON: What are some of your favorite lit mags/journals?

BACA: I’ve been tuned into Turnpike Magazine from the start! WAIL Magazine (music magazine from the PNW), Poetry Magazine and The American Poetry Review. There are so many others like Honey and Lime that I’m just now finding.

HOPKINSON: What is your favorite part of being on staff with Necro Magazine?

BACA: By far the best parts would be the great art I see and read and the amazing people I get to meet. Like you!

The worst would be having to judging the art and designing the layouts for each theme.

HOPKINSON: Where can folks send submissions?

BACA: NecroProductionsMagazine@gmail.com

HOPKINSON: If someone has a question, how can they contact you?

BACA: NecroProductionsNM@gmail.com but NecroProductionsMagazine@gmail.com works too!

I try to keep the submissions and points of contact separated but it’s really not a big deal!

  1. I sent a Poem re. Issue 1. However, I had forgotten to send the Bio, and each time I tried to send again, it is being returned as ‘unsent mail’. Kindly advise, Narendra.
