Poetry Palooza Event Series via IWWG + I’m hosting the free kickoff event! – Feb. 7 @ 7pm ET

I’m pleased to announce the International Women’s Writing Guild‘s spring programming for Poetry Palooza! I’ll also be hosting the free kick-off panel with a stellar lineup of poetry advocates, incredible teachers, and poets on Tuesday, February 7 at 7pm Eastern Time. The spring program includes several workshops, Friday Free Writes, and make sure not to miss our National Poetry Month special event Thursday, April 20 at 7pm eastern! We’re excited to be featuring one of my favorite poets and former Utah poet laureate Paisley Rekdal, followed by a Q&A and open mic.

Paisley Rekdal is the author of four books of nonfiction, and seven books of poetry, including Nightingale, Appropriate: A Provocation, and the forthcoming West: A Translation. Her work has received the Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, an NEA Fellowship, Pushcart Prizes, a Fulbright Fellowship, and various state arts council awards. The former Utah poet laureate, she teaches at the University of Utah where she is a distinguished professor.

For more about Rekdal’s most recent book of poems, you can read my review of Nightingale by Paisley Rekdal published on 15 Bytes: Utah’s Art Magazine.

Join IWWG with your host Trish Hopkinson for an evening of celebration and a panel discussion on growth and renewal for creative writers. We’ll be announcing the upcoming poetry programming, including both paid and no cost virtual events and workshops, and gathering together poets, writers, and educators, to talk about growth and renewal for creatives in the new year–how to find inspiration for generating new work with a focus on artistic growth through craft and revision. Our award-winning panelists include:

  • Alina Stefanescu, poet, author, and bibliomaniac
  • Khalisa Rae, poet, educator, and journalist
  • Sherre Vernon, poet, educator, and mentor
  • Allison Joseph, poet, professor, and founder of CRWROPPS (Creative Writers Opportunities List)
  • Jenn Givhan, poet, novelist, and mentor

The Guild’s Poetry Palooza is a multiple-month program where you can hone your craft, learn how to refresh and generate new work, and gain insights from award-winning poets and authors. Whether you’re brand new to poetry or a highly published poet, there is lots to learn in these workshops, open mics, free writes, and more.
